Reward ICFs have become the building material of choice for families wishing to protect themselves from zombie attacks

You see Zombies everywhere- on TV, in magazines, in the news, online, walking the streets and in your home. It time to stand up and protect yourself from the imminent attack this season by fortifying your home with Reward insulating concrete forms. ICFs are the first line of defense separating you from the undead.

Many folks ask us, “How can foam blocks hold back thousands of hungry zombies, from tearing down the walls and dining on our flesh.”

Well it’s simple and very easy actually.

ICFs are strong- If they can stand up to 200 MPH winds, they can withstand the incessant pounding of zombie fists. Also, with the superb blast resistance ratings, ICFs can limit the collateral damage, from say, your neighbor throwing a grenade in the street.

ICFs are soundproof- Everybody knows zombies are attracted to loud noises. They have been conditioned to respond to noise as if there was food nearby- similar to how monkeys are conditioned to respond to the sound of a banana peeling. If the undead can’t hear you, they don’t know you’re there. Having a sound proof home allows for other benefits as well. Feel free to:

practice chainsaw wielding attack moves in the basement

sleep peacefully without the outdoor noises of moaning and gnashing teeth

blare Alan Parson’s Project “Sirius” to get pumped up to stay alive every morning

ICFs are airtight- The solid wall of concrete and foam ensures no unwanted air comes in, and air won’t leak out. Why is that important? Part of that air is scent. Zombie’s smell horrible, obviously, so Zombies can smell the unrotten scent of humans, and especially so if their “prey” (you) is wounded. The ICF walls will prevent your natural human scent from escaping the walls and building.

ICFs are Energy Efficient- You wouldn’t think this would matter, but with the added stress on the power grid and the possible zombie intrusion on the power supply as a whole, you need to make sure your safe house operates while using the least amount of energy as possible. Eventually power will run out and you want to be able to use a generator to supply the needed heating and cooling to keep you alive and comfortable. Let’s be serious here, you don’t want to hole up in a safe house with 5 other people and be sweating and splashing water to cool down or having to “hug it out” with the same folks to stay warm.

Bottom Line: Zombies Hate ICFs

Stay inside your ICF home and you should be in good shape for awhile… well at least until power, water, and sanity complete run out and you think its time to find the 8 hour away “safe-zone” that’s being reported over the emergency channel. Reward ICFs can’t do anything for you then.

I know it’s Earth Day and all, however being in the ICF industry and trying to sell the world a better building product to reduce energy use every day seems like Earth Years at Reward Wall Systems. So, in lieu of a cheesy “save the planet” blog, I was going to re-post a blurb on an ICF home surviving severe weather. I was reminded of this as we are due for severe weather here in Nebraska in the next day or so.

ICFs and Severe Weather

Sandwiched between the “insulating” and the “forms” is Concrete. Steel reinforced concrete used in ICFs are perfect for homes and businesses where their top concern is occupant safety (shouldn’t that be everywhere?). Concrete homes have documented track records of withstanding all types of natural disasters including tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. ICF walls have been missile tested numerous times and shows the wall easily repelling projectiles without any structural damage, where as CMU, brick, and 2×4 construction fell apart and allowed penetrations. The house below, was in the process of being built when an F4 tornado went directly over its neighborhood.

Concrete Home Still Standing After Tornado Strikes Stoughton, Wisconsin

The ability of ICF homes to withstand hurricane- and tornado-force winds has long been known, but was made even more evident on August 18th when a tornado destroyed most of the homes in a Stoughton, Wisconsin neighborhood. When the air cleared, one home was still standing with almost no damage: a concrete home, currently under construction, built with insulating concrete forms (ICFs) from Reward Wall Systems.

The pictures are worth more than the words I can type. Happy Earth Day and be safe this severe weather season.

On this day 8 yrs ago 2,996 people were ripped from their lives. But as the media and society tend to do, they have focused on the killers. We’ve all learned more about them than we wanted to. On that day many of us made a pledge to never forget what happened. Ill with Company A of the 854th Engineer Battalion of the Army Reserves was stationed in Germany, Guatemala, and Panama as a builder and constructor of churches and schools. He saw first hand the importance of America’s freedoms, liberties and wealth.

Those were the values and qualities he had to be a man who loved a wife and three children, and who was willing to take service in the military and as a firefighter. Those same attributes gave him the courage to storm through the doors of those twin towers on September 11, 2001.

As described by his son, Capt Frederick Ill has monumental pride, and was humble and fair to his colleagues. A colleague recalled he always claimed he was “just a firefighter. The rank is for payroll purposes.”

He always made time for his family even after 24 hour shifts and left his legacy with is son Fred Ill III, who is serving the communities of New York as a New York City Firefighter.

Capt Frederick Ill, it’s been 8 years since you have left the midtown firehouse, Ladder 2, in New York. 8 years since you have been stolen from your friends, family and civilians ready for your rescue. America is grateful you were at our side. New Yorkers and the survivors of the World Trade Center still think of you through memorials, prayers, and the success and lives of those lucky enough to walk out that day.

On this anniversary of the dreadful day when ordinary people became heroes, when their actions are now tattoos of strength and fearlessness, we would like to thank those who lost their lives and thank the servicemen willing to do it all over again.

Finally a holiday. All of us here at Reward are grateful to be part of the greatest (though sometimes confused) country in the world. From the battles overseas, to personal battles in the home, the last year or so has been tough on so many. We see it in the news, and in the industry reports, through YouTube and Facebook. However, I personally feel we are all going to experience the greatest holiday ever that will change the rest of 2009. Call it the All-Star break, giving us the momentum we all need heading into the end of the year and into 2010.

It’s the midway point, the celebration and honoring of our country, of our fallen heroes big and small, as well as the future of our children and the freedoms we have come to appreciate, a bit more than before.

We would like to thank all of our customers, many who have served our fine military, from flying B-2 bombers to cooking at the base camps, and to their family and friends who have paid a sacrifice for all of us. We will think of you as those shells burst high in the sky Saturday evening, all around the country.

Reward Wall Systems wishes you a wonderful and SAFE Independence Day.
